Pacquiao-Mayweather bout to be aired for free in Mexico
The Philippines will not be the only nation which can watch the highly-anticipated “fight of the century” on May 3 for free.
According to a report published by TMZ Sports on Monday, the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. bout will air for free in Mexico.
Article continues after this advertisementMexican TV networks Televisa and Azteca both agreed to broadcast the fight for free.
Mexico is a major sponsor of the historic fight while Mexican beer brand Tecate is the fight’s official beer sponsor.
The World Boxing Council told TMZ that “Televisa and Azteca must be recognized for their great commitment, for bringing to Mexico this bout for free. This has never, ever happened in any country of the world.”
Article continues after this advertisementIn the Philippines, ABS-CBN, GMA 7 and TV 5 will simultaneously air the fight through Solar Sports in a slightly delayed telecast.
The historic deal was forged upon the request of Pacquiao.
Last Friday (Philippine time), the sale for 500 tickets open to the public, which were priced between $1,500 to $7,500, lasted only for a minute.
On the other hand, pay-per-view for the welterweight unification bout costs $99 for high definition and $89 for standard definition, the Wall Street Journal reported. AJH /CB
