LAS VEGAS—For Freddie Roach, it no longer matters whether Floyd Mayweather Jr. will run or engage in toe-to-toe fight. Whatever he does, Roach says Manny Pacquiao has the answer.
With a happy Pacquiao in prime condition, Roach said he is hardly worried about the outcome of the fighting congressman’s 12-round super fight with Mayweather this Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
The fight plan is ready and it’s now up to Pacquiao to execute his instructions, the Hall of Fame trainer assured.
Aware that Pacquiao fights well when he is happy, Roach said he obliges to the requests of his prized ward.
Roach said he is also pleased that the 36-year-old Pacquiao is in the best shape of his life, adding he has ran out of superlatives detailing the Pacman’s progress after their two-month training camp.
“Better speed, better power, quicker movement,” Roach said of Pacquiao, who promised to beat Mayweather on May 2 and ensure that Roach nail an unprecedented eighth Trainer of the Year award.
The former boxer in Roach also noticed significant changes in Pacquiao’s outlook in life.
“Manny is doing everything now,” said Roach. “He is doing his homework. He would often call me to watch videos of Zab Judah and Mayweather. He has not done that before.”
The 55-year-old trainer said Pacquiao also actively participated in planning their strategy for the biggest fight of his career.
“He gave suggestions and showed me a couple of things,” said Roach. “They would be of great help.”
Roach also noted Pacquiao’s maturity during training, saying he quickly makes adjustments whenever he sees a trap.
