LAS VEGAS—What Juan Manuel Marquez did to Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is going to do even better.

Mayweather Sr. promised this Thursday morning during the trainers’ roundtable held at the press tent of the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight here. The trainer and father of the undefeated American dominated the proceedings with his trash talk — he called his counterpart a joke, verbally tangled with reporters whose questions he didn’t like, and derisively said Pacquiao’s greatest performance was his fourth fight with Marquez, who knocked the Filipino out in the sixth round.

“Floyd would whoop Manny any day, any time, any year, any moment,” said Sr.

And while Marquez’s haymaker was widely considered as a lucky shot, the elder Mayeather said it’s not going to be a lucky punch when his son delivers it again on on Saturday night at MGM Grand Garden Arena. “I’m sorry sir, it ain’t gonna be no sucker shot. It’s gonna be a real shot.”

According to Sr., a former boxer himself, Pacquiao has never been the same again after that knockout by Marquez.

“Once you get hit like he did by Marquez and your ass goes to sleep, it won’t take too many more it happens again,” said Sr. “He’s gone. Anyone who has been in boxing long enough knows what I’m talking about.”

Using that outcome as barometer, Sr. said: “The fight is already won, trust in me. I’m just telling you, the fight is already won.”

Taking exception to Roach’s comments that his son was scared of Pacquiao, Sr. retorted: “They keep talking how scared Floyd is and how scared Floyd was for five years. That was him (Freddie Roach). They are too scared, that is. We ain’t scared.”

“I don’t know what round it will happen, but when he gets hit like that, it will happen again. Simple.”

After beating Pacquiao, Sr. said he’d advice his son to retire.

“Because if he sticks around, somebody is going to get you sooner or later.”

Mayweather Sr. was true to form as a trash-talker, tangling with reporters who asked questions he apparently did not want to answer.
