Despite the betting odds weighed against him, Manny Pacquiao is still the man to beat for many Filipinos and boxing fans in the country.

As the mega-fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. nears, fans of the ‘‘People’s Champ’’ remain hopeful that he will prevail.

Atoy de Guzman, one of Pacquiao’s supporters, said he believes that Pacquiao will win because of his fast movements.

Roger Cardos said many still believe and pray for Pacquiao’s success in the ring. “He’ll surely win,” he told INQUIRER.net.

“He can easily beat Mayweather. Mayweather will probably be knocked out by the 5th or 6th round of their fight,” said Dominic Domino.

Mark Jasper Perez, on the other hand, said it’s about time that Mayweather retired. He said Pacquiao winning against Mayweather, who is known for being boastful, would teach the latter a lesson in humility.

Professional boxer Felipe Cagobcob Jr., however, told INQUIRER.net that the undefeated Mayweather is not easy to knock out.

“We can’t say that he’ll be knocked out by Pacquiao but Pacquiao is also fast,” said Rolly Fernandez, who is hoping to watch an exciting fight on Sunday (Saturday in the US).

Jordanian amateur boxer Salim Yacub, on the other hand, advised Pacquiao to push for a long fight instead of going for a knockout.

“Mayweather is not a strong fighter (anymore) in the last four to five minutes – five rounds. Manny is faster, more agile,” he explained.

Yacub said he thinks Pacquiao will prevail and will be known as the next Muhammad Ali. KS
