Zaragosa caps PAL Junior World q’fying win with course record
RUPERT Zaragosa shot a course-record eight-under-par 64 in the second round en route to a convincing victory in the boys’ 15-17 years division of the Philippine Airlines Junior World Championships qualifying tournament recently at Splendido Taal in Nasugbu, Batangas.
Zaragosa eclipsed the old mark of 65 set by professional Miguel Tabuena with nine birdies against a bogey from the gold tees. With his other rounds of 71, 70 and 72, he posted a 277 and finished 11 shots ahead of Jelbert Gamolo (74-73-68-73-288) in the third leg of the ICTSI-JGFP Summer Tour that selected the country’s campaigners in the coming Junior World tournament in San Diego, California.
Zaragosa will be flown by national carrier PAL to Los Angeles for free as one of the 12 division champions of the qualifiers.
Article continues after this advertisementCarl Jano Corpus and Jolo Timothy Magcalayo topped the 13-14 and 11-12 age brackets, respectively, with Corpus winning by six shots over cousin Aidric Chan with 74-70-70-74-288. Magcalayo won with 71-72-69-74-286.
