Pacquiao-Mayweather weigh-in raises $115k for charity

LAS VEGAS–It wasn’t just much-needed electricity that Friday’s weigh-in generated for the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather fight.

It also generated funds for charity.

The event, held at MGM Grand’s Garden Arena, the site of Saturday’s fight between the two pound-for-pound icons, packed 11,500 people, most of whom paid for the tickets to the weigh-in.

At $10 per pop, the weigh-in collected around $115,000 for charity.

“The fans deserve a great fight,” Pacquiao said. “Whether you are fans of Mayweather or fans of Pacquiao, you deserve a great fight (Saturday night).”

Mayweather, surprisingly booed inside what was supposed to be his home arena, said: “I dedicated myself to boxing for 20 years, I’m ready for this fight.”

The undefeated star was decidedly bigger than his pound-for-pound rival but Pacquiao dismissed suggestions that would prove crucial on fight night.

Pacquiao and Mayweather square off in a fight that is being billed as the richest ever in boxing history. The fight is expected to earn as much as $400 million, with the fighters getting at least a combined $200 million.
