Aquino says win over Mayweather to be Pacquiao’s ‘crowning glory’

President Benigno Aquino III on Saturday said he hoped the outcome of the mega fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. would be the “crowning glory” of the Filipino boxing icon’s career.

“I am very confident that Manny Pacquiao will do our countrymen proud as he has always done,” Aquino said in a statement.

“In every punch and every step during his fight with Floyd Mayweather, all Filipinos will be cheering for Manny,” he said of the boxing icon and Sarangani representative.

Aquino said Pacquiao’s win would be a “source of pride for his family and country.”

“Thank you, Manny, for being an inspiration for every Filipino,” he said.

Pacquiao and Mayweather are set to face each other on Saturday evening (Sunday in the Philippines) at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
