Warriors eye third Filoil Flying V win vs Cardinals

UNIVERSITY of the East shoots for a third straight victory Wednesday even as fellow UAAP teams Far Eastern U and La Salle return to action against separate rivals in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.

Impressive in wins over University of Santo Tomas and Lyceum, UE sets out as the favorite against the Mapua Cardinals in the 1:30 p.m. clash at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Tamaraws collide with the dangerous Letran Knights at 3:15 p.m. before the Green Archers square off with the Lyceum Pirates at 5 to cap a heavy four-game bill in seniors play.

St. Benilde seeks its first win against University of San Jose-Recoletos in the curtain raiser at 11:30 p.m.

But the spotlight will be on the Warriors who have coped well following the departure of crack guard Roi Sumang. UE’s run-and-gun game will be put to the test anew against a Mapua squad that has lost its first two games.

Allwell Oraeme has shone for the Cardinals, who also have former NCAA Rookie of the Year Josan Nimes back in the fold.

The Archers are seeking their first win after losing to San Beda in the tournament opener.

Prized recruit Andrei Caracut has made an impact for the Archers but it will still be veterans like Prince Rivero, Jeron Teng and Arnold Van Opstal who will be counted upon by coach Juno Sauler against a tough and experienced Lyceum squad led by Jospeh Gabayni, Dexter Zamora and Wilson Baltazar.

With a 1-1 record, the Knights could pose problems for the Tamaraws who are also seeking their first win of the tournament.
