Globalport anchored down on the hapless Blackwater, 100-76, to get their second-straight win in the PBA Governor’s Cup Friday night at Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Blackwater’s only lead was their opening 2-0 lead but immediately bowed down as the Batang Pier stormed their defense with an unrelenting offense.

With only a two-point margin separating the two, 23-21, the Batang Pier detonated on impact going off for 15 straight points to take a 17-point lead in the second quarter and they never looked back.

Globalport head coach Pido Jarencio said he wants his players to have better second halves in the future to develop a habit of closing games.

“I told the players to have a stronger second half so that we can make a habit out of it for the future games,” Jarencio said who described their first half as “lousy.”

“Lousy” as it may be, the Batang Pier ravaged the Elite with an excellent 40 percent shooting from the field while holding Blackwater to a salty 10-of-37 outing which translated to 27 percent.

Globalport had their biggest lead in the game when Stanley Pringle nailed a three-pointer from the left corner to make it 79-47 in the 26.7 second mark of the third quarter.

“Our defensive game plan was set, it was followed, plus our up tempo offense really pushed the lead,” Jarencio said.

Globalport’s 24-point victory was the largest difference in franchise history.

Terrence Romeo led Globalport with 20 points while Pringle had 18 points coming off the bench.

Ronjay Buenafe added 16 points, including four three-pointers, while import Patrick O’ Bryant had an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double.

Jarencio said he was pacing on when to put Pringle in the game but the Penn State product just had to explode.

“He really wanted to play, and when he did, he just detonated,” Jarencio said of Pringle who missed a chunk of the season during a right ankle injury.

Marcus Douthit led Blackwater with 24 points, 15 rebounds, and seven blocks but seemed nonchalant for much of the second half. AU
