When you’re down, just grind it out.
Blackwater’s import Marcus Douthit said they just have to pick up the slack and find a way to win the next games.
“This is basketball…you can’t be too down about it,” Douthit said after his Elite started their Governor’s Cup campaign 0-2. “We just gotta grind it out.”
“Hopefully we can get better.”
Douthit saw his team crumble against a rabid Globalport, 100-76, and Stanley Pringle who was a walking nightmare for their defense.
Pringle entered the game off the bench and in his first game back since the All-Star Game the 2014 top overall pick exploded like a nuclear time bomb.
In less than 15 minutes of action, Pringle detonated with 18 points, on 4-of-6 from deep, four assists, two steals, and zero turnovers.
“When you score more points than minutes (you play) that’s big, that’s huge,” Douthit said.
Blackwater only made 2-of-24 from deep and facing a red hot Pringle “just doesn’t add up” for Douthit.
“It’s impossible to win like that.”
Just talk
Douthit seemed frustrated during the game and one person he almost took out his frustration was Globalport head coach Pido Jarencio.
Late in the third quarter, the two engaged in a shouting match with Douthit daring, as Jarencio said, the head coach to do something.
That something the two did not disclose.
Douthit said they were “just talking about nothing.”
Both received technicals during the incident.
