Malayan, JRU overwhelm Freego rivals

NCAA runner-up Malayan School and Jose Rizal University posted tough wins to keep their share of the Group B lead in the 8th Smart-PCABL (Philippine Chinese Amateur Basketball League) Freego Cup held Tuesday at Philippine Buddhacare Academy gym.

Toby Agustin erupted for 33 points and Sherwin Concepcion scored 13 to carry the Red Robins to their fourth straight win after a 62-59 decision over the Lyceum Junior Pirates.

The Light Bombers survived the University of the East Junior Warriors, 81-77.

Agustin and Concepcion shared the Freego Player of the Game award in the tournament also sponsored by Plastic Linoleum, Hapee Toothpaste, Insular Square (Cebu), Fed Seal, K TechSports and New Pioneer Auto Supply (Cebu).

In other games, National U thwarted University of Santo Tomas, 81-73, for a 3-0 start while Adamson leveled its record to 2-2 by beating Xavier School, 75-60.
