Sri Lanka frustrates Philippine Volcanoes

Stronger and faster, Sri Lanka frustrated the Philippine Volcanoes to capture the Asia Rugby Championship Division I with a 27-14 win last night at Philippine Sports Stadium in Bulacan.

Speedsters Fazil Marita, Danushka Rantan and Kanchand Ramanayaka delivered a try each, all in the same weak defensive spot that put the Filipinos in a deep hole early on.

Fullback Alexander Aronson scored on three penalty kicks and Jeff Gregson came through with a try but these weren’t enough to negate the quickness of the visitors.

Leading by 10 at the break, the Tuskers needed only a pair of penalty markers from fullback Riza Mubarak in the second half to finally silence the crowd.
