Learning from past mistakes, the Philippines kept its composure this time to hack out a 25-15, 25-21, 26-24 victory over Iran yesterday to salvage seventh place in the 2015 Asian Under-23 Women’s Volleyball Championship at Philsports Arena.
Jaja Santiago came through with back-to-back kills as the Filipinos avenged a three-set beating from the Iranians at the start of the tournament.
The Filipinos kept their errors to a minimum while Santiago and Alyssa Valdez took turns in finding gaps on the Iranian defense to prevail in a little over an hour.
Reigning world champion China claimed the title at the expense of Thailand, 27-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-11 while South Korea took the bronze with a 26-24, 25-23, 25-15 win over Japan.
“We had enough rest yesterday so we are a bit stronger today,” said Philippine coach Roger Gorayeb.
