Global in do-or-die match with Malaysia Pahang side

UNITED Football League champion Global tries to make history anew as it faces Malaysia’s Pahang in its final AFC Cup Group G match Wednesday at Philippine Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Kickoff is at 8 p.m. with Global aiming to reach the knockout stage in its maiden appearance in the continental tournament.

Having collected seven points from its first five matches, the Malaysian side only needs a draw to book passage to the next round where it will join Hong Kong’s South China FC.

Despite having just four points, Global can  snatch the Round of 16 spot with a win due to the winner-over-the-other rule. Pahang and Global fought to a 0-0 draw in Kuantan on match day two.

Global’s lone win came four weeks ago at home over Yadanarbon, 4-1, also at PSS.

“For us, it’s a great opportunity as a club to make history,” said Global coach Dan Padernal. “We are confident we can get an upset.”

Global captain Misagh Bahadoran stressed the need for improvement after suffering a 0-3 beating from South China two weeks ago.

“We are playing at home and we have to make our fans happy,” said Bahadoran.

Pahang goes into the game with its confidence boosted by the 7-4 drubbing of Yadanarbon in Kuantan last April 29.
