Regent 5i50 Triathlon set June 7

A new challenge awaits the country’s growing number of triathletes in the inaugural Regent 5i50 Triathlon set on June 7 in Subic Bay.

“We’re really seeing the birth of the sport,” said Wilfred Uytengsu, president of race organizer Sunrise Events Inc., during a press conference at Dusit Thani Hotel yesterday. “We have thousands of triathletes from just a couple of hundred five to six years ago. [The country] has also become a destination   opportunity for foreign visitors.”

Australian pros Casey Munro, Justin Granger, Clayton Fettell, Belinda Granger, Dimity Lee-Duke and Thai Carole Fuchs lead the foreign favorites who signed up for the grueling 1.5K swim-40K bike-10K run.

Elite racers Banjo Norte, LC Langit and Jenny Rose Guerreo head nearly a thousand local participants, that also include celebrities Matteo Guidicelli, Victor Basa, Onemig Bondoc and Kim Atienza.

“We also want to promote fun,” said Regent Foods brand manager Jen Sy.

The swim leg will take place in the waters off Subic Bay Boardwalk, while the bike ride traverses Subic International Airport and Tarlac road. For details, visit www.regent.5i50philippines.com.
