Chito Narvasa named new PBA commissioner
Chito Narvasa has been named the new commissioner of the Philippine Basketball Association.
Narvasa’s appointment was announced Thursday after a special board meeting at the league’s office in Libis.
Narvasa will assume the post that will be vacated Chito Salud, who was earlier assigned as PBA’s first president/Chief executive officer, effective August 1.
After an exhaustive search for the next commissioner, PBA chairman Patrick Gregorio said that the board voted unanimously for Narvasa.
“We have chosen the right Commissioner,” Gregorio said. “We want the PBA to grow and we want to focus on what we can still accomplish as a league.”
Before the commissioner position, he served as the CEO of CityState Bank. He also had stints as head coach for Purefoods and Shell and served as the league’s head for the NCAA (2007) and the UAAP (2008).
Narvasa, who will also be the league’s chief operating officer, will be tasked to handle all game-related concerns such as trades, sanctions, tournament format among others while Salud will handle the business side of the league.
