Cagayan Valley coach hits referee in the face, back—report

He did it again.

Cagayan Valley coach Alvin Pua reportedly hit a referee in the PBA D-League during his team’s match against the Livermarin at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig Wednesday.

Citing the accounts of witnesses, a report by Spin.ph said Pua was clarifying a call from referee Ben Montero when the latter went to the officials table to issue a warning to the Cagayan coach.

D-League officials said Montero’s move supposedly upset Pua, prompting the coach to punch the referee in the face and in the back.

The report added that referee was immediately rushed to the Medical City after the punch left an open wound on the referee’s left cheekbone, officials confirmed.

The incident happened at the 1:39 mark of the second quarter, Spin.ph said.

Last December, the Cagayan coach was fined P50,000 and banned for three games after a physical encounter with two referees. In 2012, Pua also served a three-game suspension after punching a referee in a practice match.
