Love her or hate her, Aby Maraño is one of the best in volleyball and she’ll carry the Philippine colors in the upcoming Singapore Southeast Asian Games.

Maraño is often criticized for her on-court behavior where she celebrates with immense swagger, punctuated by screams and shouts. That got her a fitting nickname: “beast mode.”

“I’ll never refuse the national call of duty,” Maraño said Thursday after Petron defeated Shopinas to claim the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipono Cup. “I won’t let anybody take away my dream.”

She added that players of other nationalities go all out in celebrating their scores and she sees no reason why can’t keep doing the same
