While Manny Pacquiao basked in the adulation of his countrymen on his return to Manila Wednesday, Floyd Mayweather Jr. drew boos from his compatriots in Oakland, California.
Despite losing by unanimous decision to Mayweather in their blockbuster tussle on May 2 in Las Vegas, Paquiao still enjoyed the admiration of millions of Filipinos.
Mayweather, the world’s highest-paid athlete who claims to be “The Best Ever,” can’t win over his fellow Americans to his side, however.
According to a vine.co video posted by Erik Malinowski, Mayweather was booed by the crowd when he showed up for Game 5 of the Golden State-Memphis NBA semifinal playoffs, won by the Warriors, 98-78.
The jeers reverberated even as Mayweather’s smiling face was flashed on the overhead monitor of Oracle Arena.
The Warriors’ tweet welcoming Mayweather to Oracle Arena also drew a backlash, with the majority of respondents expressing disappointment and shock over the presence of the undisputed world featherweight champion.
