It’s time for him to leave the octagon, and he’ll do it in front of his hometown fans.
Mark Muñoz will leave the UFC for good after fighting in the promotion for six years, receiving acclaim as one of its most devastating middleweights.
The Filipino wrecking machine is set to fight Luke Barnatt on Saturday for “UFC Fight Night 66: Edgar vs Faber” at Mall of Asia Arena in the promotion’s first fight card in the Philippines.
He said during Ultimate Media Day on Thursday he had not given much thought on the idea but he was sure emotions would come rolling once he steps down the octagon for the final time.
“I’ve never really thought about it,” Muñoz said. “But I’m sure after I’m done, I’ll be emotional.”
His last fight, however, will still be “business” and he has got to improve his 13-6-0 record against the 8-2-0 Barnatt.
“To be able to end my career in the Philippines, this is where it all started with my parents, I have three generations of my family still here, it’s a story book ending, it’s a dream come true.”
“I want to be able to represent my heritage, my culture, to the best of my ability.”
