He was bloodied but he ain’t defeated.
Jon Delos Reyes finished off Roldan Sangcha-an with a rear naked choke in the second round of their match at the UFC Fight Night Manila Saturday evening at Mall of Asia Arena.
Sangcha-an cut Delos Reyes just above his right eye when the two collided with flying knees and Sangcha-an hit the Fil-Guamanian with a headbutt.
Delos Reyes found his opening early in the second round with a solid right punch that took down the Baguio native.
“I feel good, I came for a war,” Delos Reyes said as he improved to 8-4. “It’s just the fighting pride, we’re both Filipinos.”
Sangcha-an fell to 4-2.
“I feel great. It was a slow start. I knew it was a tough fight, and I wanted to show the fans two Filipinos fighting against each other in the UFC, I think it was a good fight for our first UFC fight in Manila,” Delos Reyes said. “I was born in Guam, but I’m full Filipino.
Fighting in the Philippines was going to be a lot of pressure–I love Filipinos. I get humbled here.”
Sangcha-an said he doesn’t feel bad for his loss, instead he’ll accept the defeat and learn from it.
“I’m disappointed but it’s part of the game. I accept this defeat and learn from it because champions who don’t accept defeat will never be champions. It was great fighting here tonight. I am proud to represent the Philippines.”
