DOMINIQTUE Gabriel Velasco and Miguel Barreto sparkled in the pool to reach the finals of the Speedo G-League swimming competition Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
Velasco, an incoming Grade 7 from International School Manila, clocked five minutes and 56.97 seconds in the girls’ 400m individual medley and 30.81 seconds in the 50m freestyle to accomplish the qualifying times for the meet finale in July.
“The target is to make best time. So far, I’m happy with my performance,” said the 13-year-old who swims for the Galaxy Starships Swim Club.
Barreto, a 14-year-old from Ateneo, registered the best clocking in the boys’ 50m free (25.72 seconds) and registered an impressive 5:17.13 in the 400m IM.
Other 400m IM qualifiers in the finals where the top age-group swimmers in the country converge are Erika Burgos, Xiandi Chua, Dara Carreon, Nicole Pamintuan, Jerome Lim, Phillip Yu-Santos, Ianiko Limfilipino, Yuri Ilustre and Miguel Arellano.
Camille Buico, Jules Ong, Shaye Uy, Miguel Barreto, Marco Austriaco, Maurice Ilustre and Franco dela Rosa also made it to the 50m free medal round.
Velasco, coached by former Ateneo standout Celina Gonzalez, is also expected to shine in the 100m backstroke and 4x100m free relay during the two-day NCR qualifier backed by the Philippine Sports Commission.
