DEFENDING champion Chikara of Brunei and Adamson Alumni hammered out contrasting wins Monday to forge a title clash in the premier women’s division of the ninth Summer Grand Slam softball tournament at Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga.
Bannered by former Philippine team standouts, the Brunei-based squad overcame Adamson University, 2-1, in extra innings to book a return trip to the finals against Adamson Alumni, a 15-5 winner over National U in the other Final Four clash.
Chikara, bannered by former Blu Girls Edna Agravante, Esmeralda Tayag and Syrel Ramos, capitalized on a catching error by Rizelle Calumbares to register the winning run.
The finals will be a rematch of the elimination-round duel won by Adamson Alumni, 6-5, last week.
Meanwhile, Rizal Technological University whipped San Ildefonso of Bulacan, 9-2, to advance to the finals of the men’s division.
With Rich Field Custodio rock-solid on the mound, the Mandaluyong-based squad rolled to victory in just four and a half innings.
RTU will face the winner between Antonio, Quezon, and Calamba City.
