After suffering from severe diarrhea on Sunday, GlobalPort head coach Pido Jarencio is set to join his team in Dubai for their match against Rain or Shine on Thursday at the Al Shabab Al Arabi Club.
According to GlobalPort team manager Bonnie Tan, Jarencio had to ride a wheelchair when he arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on Monday for his noon flight to Dubai.
“Hopefully, okay na siya,” Tan said.
Tan said Jarencio suffered draining and weakening from fluid loss due to diarrhea, which reportedly started during GlobalPort’s game against San Miguel at the Cuneta Astrome on Sunday.
GlobalPort decided to leave without its head coach, who had to seek medical assistance for his condition.
The Philippine Airlines flight carrying the GlobalPort and Rain or Shine teams arrived in Dubai late Monday evening.
GlobalPort’s match against Rain or Shine on Thursday will be followed by the latter’s game versus Barangay Ginebra on Friday. This marks the PBA’s fourth visit to the United Arab Emirates.
PBA commissioner Chito Salud, who arrived in Dubai early Tuesday, promised PBA fans in Dubai that the teams would “put on a show” for them.
“And we can’t resist our fans here. They simply love the PBA, and the PBA loves our countrymen here even more. ROS, Globalport and Ginebra will put on a show for Dubai,” he told reporters aboard an Emirates Airways flight. CC
