Tams seek solo 2nd vs Blazers

FAR EASTERN University, fresh from upending UAAP champion National University, seeks solo second in Group A against St. Benilde today in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.

The Tamaraws and the Blazers collide at 11:45 a.m. at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City with FEU coach Nash Racela hoping for a better team effort following their scrambling 86-84 win over the Bulldogs in overtime last week.

“Our emphasis is the same as last year— playing together as a team,” said Racela. “It’s about sharing the ball and making the right decisions.”

Letran and Adamson tangle in another  Group A game at 1:30 p.m. with the Knights shooting for a fourth win in six games.

In Group B, University of Santo Tomas and University of the Philippines eye a second victory in their 3:15 p.m. encounter.

Mac Belo and Mike Tolomia will lead the favored Tamaraws against the Blazers, whose only triumph in four games came against University of San Jose-Recoletos, 93-81.

The backcourt tandem of Mark Cruz and Rey Nambatac will banner the Knights, who are slightly favored over the young Falcons.

Coming off a two-week break, the Tigers try to get their acts together versus the Maroons after dropping two of their first three games.

The Tigers, relying on a young crew due to injuries to some veterans, routed winless Mapua, 78-59, behind rookie Mario Bonleon.

The lone win came after losses to University of the East, 59-60, and San Beda, 64-74.
