Int’l body recognizes new volley group
THE INTERNATIONAL Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has formally recognized Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas as the sport’s governing body in the country.
In a letter dated May 18 and emailed to LVPI president Joey Romasanta, FIVB president Dr. Ary Graca said the federation’s board of administration approved the affiliation of LVPI during its meeting last week.
“The FIVB recognizes Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc., as the legitimate and exclusive authority, under the leadership of Mr. Jose Romasanta and its secretary general Mr. Ricky Palou, to govern volleyball and beach volleyball in the Philippines,” the letter said.
Article continues after this advertisement“We would like to warmly welcome you to the volleyball family,” it added.
The letter came a few days before the country takes part in the Asian seniors championships in China, and weeks before the Southeast Asian Games, where the Nationals are competing for the first time in 10 years.
“With all humility we thank the FIVB for the recognition,” said Romasanta.
Article continues after this advertisementHe added that what clinched the FIVB recognition was the country’s hosting of the Asian U23 championships early this month which earned “excellent rating.”
