Lions, Bombers bounce back from Filoil losses

SAN BEDA and Jose Rizal University came back strong after a first loss as the two squads whipped separate opponents in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup yesterday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Ola Adeogun dropped 20 points and nine rebounds and Art dela Cruz poured in 16 markers as the Red Lions routed University of the Philippines, 96-71, to reclaim a share of the lead in Group B.

The Lions forged a three-way tie at 4-1 with idle University of the East and Centro Escolar University, which dealt the NCAA champions a huge 80-69 upset last week.

In Group A, Gio Lasquety shot near perfect from the field to power the Bombers to a 73-58 blasting of Emilio Aguinaldo College.

Lasquety hit a game-high 24 points built on a 9-of-10 shooting clip to help the Bombers inch closer to unbeaten leader Perpetual Help (4-0) with a second-best 4-1 card.

Tey Teodoro and Abdel Poutouochi also combined for 21 markers for the Bombers, who bounced back from a slim setback versus Letran, 52-58.

Mapua, meanwhile, nailed its first victory in five tries with an 81-73 trouncing of Cebu’s Southwestern University.
