Junior Archers halt Eaglets’ Freego Cup streak

DE LA Salle-Zobel outlasted rival Ateneo, 74-63, even as Adamson and Hope Christian High School kept their quarterfinal bids alive in the 8th Smart-PCABL (Philippine Chinese Amateur Basketball League) Freego Cup at Philippine Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.

With Aljun Melecio and Martin Romero leading the team’s well-balanced attack, the Junior Archers dealt the Eaglets their first defeat, thus creating a four-way tie for the lead in Group A at 6-1.

Romero took the Freego Player of the Game award with 14 points and 12 boards in the event backed by Plastic Linoleum, Hapee Toothpaste, Insular Square (Cebu), Fed Seal, K TechSports, and New Pioneer Auto Supply.

Ateneo’s defeat left National University as the only unbeaten team after the Bullpups dumped the Xavier School Golden Stallions, 80-60, in Group B action.

University of the Philippines-Integrated School tied La Salle, Ateneo and Arellano for the lead in Group A after crushing University of the Perpetual Help, 108-79.
