JRU player passes away 2 days after collapsing in jrs pre-season game
Grief has enveloped the JRU community as Light Bomber Carl Jimwell “CJ” Servillon passed away on Sunday two days after collapsing during the team’s game against De La Salle-Zobel.
In a report in Spin.ph, the 17-year-old collapsed during a timeout in JRU’s game in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup Friday and was immediately rushed to the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan.
Article continues after this advertisementHe was in comatose for two days in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital before passing away.
JRU coach Nat Gregorio said that the team was in shock of what had transpired, saying that the squad and even Servillon’s parents had no idea of his condition.
“During the timeout, sabi lang ng teammate na nahilo sya. He collapsed right away,” said the Light Bombers coach in the report.
Article continues after this advertisementWith the turn of events, JRU is now weighing its options whether it will still continue joining summer tourneys.
“We are still going to talk about it kung ano yung magiging best for the rest of the team. Pero in the meantime, we are still in the state of shock regarding sa nangyari,” Gregorio said.
In a statement, JRU asked for prayers for Servillon’s family amid the tragic incident.

“José Rizal University and the whole Rizalian community send their deepest condolences to the Family of Carl Jimwell “CJ” Servillon. CJ was a member of the JRU Light Bombers Basketball Team. He unexpectedly lost consciousness during a time out in a FilOil Tournament game last May 22. He was immediately brought to Cardinal Santos Memorial Hospital, where he was confined to the Intensive Care Unit. CJ passed away last night, May 24. We urge everyone to extend their prayers to CJ’s Family during these trying times.”
