Southwestern University finally broke into the win column as it put down University of the Philippines, 73-60, in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Preseason Premier Cup Wednesday afternoon at the Arena in San Juan.
It was the Cobras’ first win in three games in the Group B of the tournament. UP, meanwhile, fell to its sixth straight loss after winning its first game against Mapua.
SWU stretched the lead to 14, 60-46, early in the fourth quarter when Mark Tallo drove to the basket for a layup and never looked back.
Cobras head coach Yayoy Alcoseba was elated with the win and hopes their good fortune continues throughout the tournament.
“It feels good that we won,” Alcoseba said. “Hopefully our game will be back. We still need to improve, though, if we want to reach the quarterfinals.”
Boko Mupungo led the Cobras with 22 points, 18 rebounds, and two blocks while John Auditor had 16 points and seven boards.
Cris Vito led UP with 13 points and seven rebounds.
