Kaikkonen pulls off sweep, nets overall title

Finnish expatriate Veli-Matti Kaikkonen of Hafele Racing Team swept the Sprint and GT Main Race to emerge overall champion in the recent kickoff of the 2015 Yokohama Philippine Grand Touring Car Championships Series at Clark International Speedway.

Kaikkonen impressed the crowd with his near-flawless driving to control the top spot from start to finish in the GT300 final race.

Richmond dela Rosa also scored a sweep over defending GT200 champion Paolo Mantolino while brother Patrick captured the GT150 crown also by a sweep.

Ivan Diaz bagged the GT100 title.

Richmond started second on the grid and kept Mantolino at bay to quickly pull ahead and secure a wide lead midway in the Sprint race.

Richmond checked in second overall en route to the GT200 crown by 32.563 seconds over Mantolino.  Walter Zamora placed third.

Patrick ruled the Sprint race over Dindo de Jesus and Bong Perez and reasserted his GT150 supremacy in the GT Main Race over Perez and De Jesus.

In the GT100 division, Diaz turned back Singaporean Joginder Sin and Edwin Rodriguez.
