San Beda used a blistering second quarter to upend Southwestern University (SWU), 71-66, for their fifth win in six games in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Preseason Premier Cup Saturday at the San Juan Arena.

Initially falling to a 23-11 hole in the first quarter, the Red Lions went on a Cobra hunt in the second, going on a 32-9 run that swung the momentum wildly to their side.

Red Lions head coach Jamike Jarin admitted they could not turn things around in the first quarter and they nearly paid dearly for it.

“The game plan didn’t work…we played really bad,” Jarin said. “SWU made their shots and they gained confidence from it.”

The Cobras, who fell to a 1-4 record, did make their shots as they shot better from the floor than the Red Lions with the Cebu-based squad hitting on 44 percent of their shots, 27-of-61, compared to San Beda’s 39-percent clip, 27-of-69.
