Star ended its slump at the expense of Kia, 89-80, in a crucial road game in the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup on Saturday night at Angeles University Foundation Gym in Angeles, Pampanga.

Two-time MVP James Yap broke out of his shooting woes with 23 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field for the Hotshots, who came into the game in dire need of a victory having lost four games in a row.

Marqus Blakely also had 23 points that went with 11 rebounds for Star, which improved to 2-4.

Kia guard LA Revilla made it a five-point game, 82-77, to keep the Carnival within reach before Yap pulled the plug with back-to-back triples inside the final minute.

Kia failed to join Alaska and Barako Bull in first place and slid to 3-2.

The Carnival’s Asian import Jet Chang scored 17 points but needed 19 shots and missed 12 of his attempts. RC
