Make that five in a row.
San Miguel added to Ginebra’s woes as the Beermen grounded the Gin Kings, 100-85, Sunday in the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup at Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
It was an explosive third quarter for San Miguel captained by Arizona Reid’s hot shooting, as he got 12 of his 27 points in the said period to give the Beermen a 16-point advantage, 63-47, it would not relinquish. He also had 13 rebounds and six assists in the win.
But the spotlight was on Chris Ross all game long as the pesky guard almost registered a triple-double with his 19 markers, nine boards, and nine assists as he hounded the Ginebra guards all game long.
Marcio Lassiter and Arwind Santos combined for 24 points, while June Mar Fajardo tallied a double-double with his 10 markers and 20 boards in his much-awaited face-off with Greg Slaughter.
“We have to give credit to all our players because they’re so focused in the game and they’re so eager to win,” said coach Leo Austria.
Though San Miguel has now recovered from its 0-2 start, the outspoken Austria wanted his guys to sustain their hunger as the conference goes.
“I didn’t want our streak to stop. The target of our team is to get to the playoffs, get to the top four and get that twice-to-beat advantage,” he said.
Orlando Johnson led Ginebra (2-4) with 22 points and 15 rebounds, as Josh Urbiztondo added 20 markers on a 4-of-8 shooting from threes in the defeat. CC
