Throughout the 2015 PBA D-League Foundation Cup, Cagayan Gerry’s has proven that it can contend despite losing Moala Tautuaa and coach Alvin Pua.
And on Monday the Rising Suns showed just that as Don Trollano took matters into his own hands and helped Cagayan Gerry’s barge into the semifinals with a 107-103 overtime victory over AMA University at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Trollano scored the Rising Suns’ final nine points in overtime to anchor the squad to another Final Four berth. He finished with 31 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists in the win.
Michael Mabulac also helped the cause for Cagayan with a huge double-double 0f 25 markers and 17 boards.
“We don’t entertain distractions. We just wanted to focus in our practices and the games,” said coach Toto Dojillo, who bared that Pua is still hands-on with the progress of the team.
With the win, the Rising Suns will face second-seed Cafe France in a best-of-three semifinals series set to begin on Monday.
Cagayan had to weather the record-setting 40-point outburst from Jerramy King, who led the Titans in a losing effort.
James Martinez and Dexter Maiquez also finished with 18 and 15 markers, respectively.
Jay-R Taganas got another double-double with his 11 points and 23 rebounds, alongside his five assists and four steals as AMA made its exit from the tournament. CC
