Malayan gains Freego semis
NCAA runner-up Malayan (formerly Mapua) prevented an all-UAAP semifinal cast in the 8th Smart-PCABL (Philippine Chinese Amateur Basketball League) Freego Cup by downing University of the Philippines-Integrated School, 92-75, last Monday at Philippine Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.
Warren Bonifacio paced Malayan with 17 points as the Red Robins forged a knockout match with Group A topnotcher De La Salle Zobel, which routed University of Santo Tomas, 98-58.
Other UAAP teams which marched into the last four were reigning UAAP champion Ateneo and last year’s champion National University.
The Bullpups, who topped Group B with an 8-0 record, trounced Arellano University, 89-68. They will face the Eaglets who downed the Adamson Baby Falcons, 73-55.
