A day before Roger Gorayeb and his Philippine Women’s Volleyball Team fly to Singapore for the Southeast Asian Games, the head coach said that two of his players are dealing with some mild injuries.
Spiker Gretchel Soltones and middle blocker Bea De Leon sustained these injuries during the team’s training sessions at Blue Eagle Gym in Ateneo.

Soltones said she has a painful right shoulder which she sustained on Tuesday while De Leon has a bruised chin after a fall while in pursuit of the volleyball.
De Leon required four stitches on her chin but she said she’s fine.
Both De Leon and Soltones trained sparingly on Wednesday as the team played tune-up games with a selection of male players. The national team players took four sets and dropped one close one during the tune-up games.

Gorayeb said veteran Aiza Maizo-Pontillas is still on the reserve column of the roster but he will decide in Singapore whether the 27-year-old could slide into the main roster.
“She’s still in the reserve list,” Gorayeb said of Maizo-Pontillas. “Once we get to Singapore, it’s where I will decide.”
Still, Gorayeb said his team has shook off all the negativity that preceded them before the final 12-woman lineup was completed.

“We have forgotten all those negative comments directed at us,” Gorayeb said. “It’s their opinion.”
