When the Philippine Azkals take on Bahrain in their World Cup Qualifying clash against Bahrain on Thursday, they will be donning jerseys made by one of the top local sportswear brands in the country.
The Azkals unveiled their new kits Wednesday night in a glittering ceremony at Sparta Recreational and Fitness Center in Mandaluyong, formalizing their partnership with local uniform supplier LGR Athletic Wears Inc.
The team has linked up with huge global brands over the past decade, but manager Dan Palami felt it’s time to “go local” as they continue their quest for international glory.
“We were conceptualizing it a couple of years ago, but at that time, they weren’t ready yet,” Palami recalled. “We wanted to make sure that when we put up the kit, we can be proud of it and the players can be comfortable and feel proud wearing it.”
LGR executive vice president Rhayan Cruz personally designed the kits, taking inspiration from the Philippine flag.
The new kits come in blue and white colors, while the goalkeeper jersey is in black.
“I’m very proud of what we have provided, and we hope that everyone will be able to appreciate what we have done,” said Cruz. “It’s very overwhelming that the Azkals trusted us.”
