Elvie Baldivino gave the Philippines its first gold of the day in women’s Precision Pistol competition in the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore Monday.
The 34-year-old Baldivino padded the Philippines’ medal haul to seven golds, 10 silvers and 19 bronzes as of posting.
The country, which remained in 7th in the overall medal race, is also assured of another gold courtesy of its women’s billiards team with Chezka Centeno and Rubilen Amit clashing in the gold medal match in 9-ball Tuesday afternoon.
Centeno, only 15 years old, made her way to the final by edging Thailand’s Siraphat Chitchomnart, 7-5, in the semifinal.
The veteran Amit, meanwhile, scored a 7-2 drubbing of Myanmar’s Aye Mi Aung in the semis to arrange an all-Filipino finale.
Host Singapore continue to lead the medal standings with a 31-44-44 tally. Vietnam is in second with 24 golds while Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia complete the top five. CFC
