56 riders survive Giro d’ Luca

A TOTAL of 56 cyclists completed the annual Giro d’ Luca, a grueling 530-kilometer cycling event in Bohol that started and ended at Bellevue Resort Hotel in Panglao over the weekend.

The event, held as part of triathlete Gianluca Guidicelli’s 53rd birthday celebrations, drew riders from Manila, Cebu, Davao, Bicol, Dumaguete, Dipolog and Cagayan de Oro.

One-third of the total 180 participants completed the entire course over three days.

“It was an awesome weekend full of fun, enjoyment, surprises,” said Guidicelli of the race sponsored by Ford and organized by Sunrise Events, Inc.

The event kicked off with the 200K ride from the Bellevue hotel to Guindulman and back.  The field then covered a 170K hilly ride from the hotel to Chocolate Hills and back during the second day before tackling the 160K course from the hotel to Jagna and back.

Bohol was chosen as the official venue due to its awesome cycling terrain, making it a top training site for cyclists and triathletes alike.
