SEA Games: Unbeaten Blu Girls, Blu Boys nab softball golds

SINGAPORE — The Blu Boys and the Blu Girls both turned in golds Wednesday for the Philippines.

The highly regarded Philippine men’s and women’s softball team completed an unbeaten run to the titles in the Southeast Asian Games held at Kallang field here.

The men’s team chalked four runs in the fourth frame to cripple Indonesia en route to a 6-4 victory in the final match.

The Blu Boys also connected in the third and sixth to impose their will against the Indonesians amid the scorching heat in the field was was meters away from the Marina Bay tributary.

The men’s team is composed of Isidro Abello, Sonny Boy Acuna, Emerson Atilano, Denmark Bathan, Orlando Binarao, Oscar Bradshaw, Jasper Cabrera, Edmer del Socorro, Vernon Diaz, Jeffrey Hardillo, Ben Maravilles, Gregorio Marquez, William Jess Mendoza, Antony Olaez, Saxon Omandac, Apolonio Aquino, and coached by Isaac Bacarisas.

The Blu Girls also delivered the expected gold with a 3-0 victory over Thailand in the women’s championships. It was the fifth SEA Games gold for the Blu Girls.

Making up the women’s team are Lorna Adorable, Francesca Altomonte, Vernonica Belleza, Annalie Benjamen, Rizza Bernanrdino, Garnet Blando, Shaira Damasing, Luzviminda Embudo, Marlyn Francisco, Florable Fabiana, Ma. Celestine Palma, Elma Parohinog, Kriska Piad, Cristy Joy Roa, Queeny Sabobo, Angelie Ursabia and Arienna Vallestero and coached by Randy Dizer. CFC
