Jason Perkins came through in clutch as he lifted De La Salle University over Perpetual Help, 81-79, to advance to the semifinals of the Filoil Flying V Hanes Preseason Cup Wednesday at San Juan Arena.
Perksin, fondly called the “Hefty Lefty,” scored six points in the final two minutes that proved to be the turning point of the Green Archers’ Filoil campaign.
With the score tied at 79 with 6.3 seconds left on the clock, Jeron Teng received the inbound pass and then kicked it to Perkins, who momentarily lost the ball but still managed to nail the go-ahead basket.
Green Archers head coach Juno Sauler initially wanted the game-winner for Teng but the opportunity presented itself for Perkins.
“We went to Jeron in the last play but Jason stepped up a little bit so he got open,” Sauler said.
Teng led La Salle with 19 points, six assists, and five rebounds while Perkins finished with an 11-point, 13-rebound double-double.
Bright Akhuetie and Paul Dagongon had 25 and 23 points respectively to lead the Altas. CFC
