JERON Teng and Thomas Torres found their stride early as defending champion La Salle used a fiery start to subdue Far Eastern U, 84-71, Friday and reach the finals of the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.
Aggressive right from the get-go, Teng finished with 19 points while Torres dished produced 18 points and 10 rebounds.
San Beda, who missed starting guard Baser Amer due to national team duties, forged a finals duel with La Salle, after holding off Jose Rizal U, 81-77, in the other semifinal. Art dela Cruz paced the Lions with 22 points.
The final is a rematch of last year’s championship match as well as the Philippine Collegiate Champions League. La Salle won the Filoil tournament before San Beda avenged the loss in the PCCL.
“It’s an NCAA versus UAAP finals so it’s going to be a hard fought game for sure,” said San Beda coach Jamike Jarin.
