Rain or Shine continues its resurgence following a 103-88 win over Star in the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup on Saturday night at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Import Wendell McKines recorded 28 points and 14 rebounds for the Elasto Painters, who extended their winning streak to four.

“It’s a big win for us. We’re still looking for the top four, we have an outside chance of making the top four and getting that twice-to-beat advantage,” said ROS head coach Yeng Guiao. “I think this opens up the door for that slot.”

“We played great defense today. To beat a team like Purefoods, a really potent offensive team and to be able to defend them this way, it’s really the effort of the guys who wanted to win today,” Guiao added.

The Painters started the conference losing four of their first five games. But that was a time when McKines and the Rain or Shine locals have yet to get comfortable playing with each other and a stretch where Jeff Chan missed four games due to a foot injury.

And as of Saturday night, Rain or Shine is now tied with idle Globalport for the fourth slot.

Chan is slowly getting back his form as the conference goes on. He was huge in this game with a conference-high 16 points.

“He gives us spacing. Jeff is really our next option after Paul Lee,” said Guiao.

While the Painters are getting into their groove, the Hotshots are left searching for consistency. After winning two straight, they lost again and fell at the bottom four of the standings at 3-5.
