Injuries hamper PH athletics bid

SINGAPORE—If not for the spate of injuries, the Philippine track and field team could have accomplished the goal it had set out to do.

Easily three gold medals slipped away after sprint king Eric Cray and 400m specialist Archand Christian Bagsit struggled with injuries in their final events in the 28th Southeast Asian Games here.

Marathoner Eduardo Buenavista was  bothered by a bum stomach before and during the race while sprinter Kyla Richardson pulled a hamstring in the women’s 4x100m relay finals with elder twin Kayla, Kat Santos and Princess Griffey.

“We lost at least three in those injuries,” said athletics chief Philip Ella Juico.

Even Henry Dagmil (hamstring) wasn’t spared as the 2013 men’s long jump champion could only manage 7.28 meters that left him in  sixth place.  June Navarro
