Will the change in image also bring a change in fortune?
University of the Philippines is certainly hoping for that as the Fighting Maroons unveiled a new logo in time for their hosting of UAAP Season 78.
In a report on ABS-CBN Sports, UP representative to the Board and UAAP secretary-general Ronnie Dizer said that the Fighting Maroons will do away from the trademark Oblation and will use a logo which bears a native warrior holding a spear and a shield, which is inscribed with the letters UP in baybayin characters.
UP has failed to make the men’s basketball Final Four since Paolo Mendoza led the squad to a fourth place finish in 1997. It also has won a measly four games in the last four seasons and has been in the cellar for the last six years.
Though the Fighting Maroons will boast of the new logo, Oblation will remain as a main symbol for the school and the UP system. CFC
