BRANDAN Lui Anglo and Rehsane Marie Nicor downed their foes to rule the boys’ and girls’ under-11 singles, respectively, in the Visayas leg of the 2nd Sun Cellular National Juniors Badminton Tournament at Pohang Badminton Center in Bacolod City over the weekend.
Anglo, who studies at St. John’s Institute, overcame Rolan Benedict Espinosa, 23-21, 21-23, 23-21, to capture the boys crown while Nicor, who plays for Jaguar Academy in Cadiz, routed Jaine Aloyan, 21-7, 21-9.
Sharing the spotlight with Anglo and Nicor in the tournament organized by Yoly Araullo of Forthright Events and Sports Management were Clarence Villaflor and Katrina Mae Consing, also both of Jaguar Academy.
Villaflor whipped Jan Rick Goson Ang Tan, 21-6, 21-7, to top the boys’ under-13 while Consing outlasted Chelsea Katrina Akiatan of USC, 23-21, 17-21, 21-7, for the girls’ crown.
Smart Sports’ Christopher Quimpo said the tournament was part of the MVP Sports Foundation’s efforts to comb the countryside for players who could soon play for the country.
