The country’s top guns and rising stars battle it out in the 12th FDG Cup Badminton Championships, a top-ranking tournament spiced up by foreign players, which starts July 9 at Powersmash in Makati and Robinsons Place Manila.
John Kenneth Monterubio, R-Jay Ormilla, Toby Gadi, Joper Escueta, Peter Magnaye, Kevin Dalisay and Ros Leenard Pedrosa along with Airah Albo, Alyssa Leonardo, Aldreen Concepcion and Eleanor Inlayo will lead the men’s and ladies Open singles cast in the tournament which will be played in four straight days instead of the usual two-weekend affair.
The annual event, held in honor of Robinsons Land Corp. president Frederick D. Go, and sanctioned by the Philippine Badminton Association, also features the Invitational division, featuring employees and business partners of RLC. Categories will be from Classes A to F with a maximum of 192 players set to clash for top honors.
Deadline for registration is on June 26 with the draw set on July 2 at 3 p.m. at Holiday Inn Hotel in Pasig City. Babolat Philippines will provide the official shuttlecocks.
The Open division also includes the men’s and women’s doubles and the mixed doubles with the field to be limited to 312 players.
The first two days of the event will consist of the elimination rounds of the Open division with the qualifying for the Invitational division to be held on July 11 along with the quarterfinal round of the Open.
The first three playdates will be held at Powersmash Badminton Center in Pasong Tamo, Makati with the quarters, semis and finals set on July 12 at Robinsons Place Manila.
