While most athletes listen to songs that can pump them up mentally and emotionally, the world no. 33 figure skater prefers songs that can loosen him up before hitting the ice rink.

Martinez said he prefers tracks Hillsong United and other alternative artists who play religious songs.

“I like songs that can help me relax before my performance, it removes tension,” the two-time Triglav Trophy Champion said Thursday at SM Megamall.

Martinez, though, also listens to artists like Jay Z or Kanye West but only during his training sessions, but before a performance it’s back to Hillsong.

“During training I listen to them but when it’s time to perform not anymore.”

Martinez is set to compete in the Los Angeles Skate Championship in Detroit in July.
