Yoel Romero put himself in the middleweight title mix after knocking out former champion Lyoto Machida in the main event of UFC Fight Night 70 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida Sunday (Manila time).

Romero tripped Machida then pummelled him with vicious elbows en route to the brutal knockout and extended his winning streak to six.

Romero’s victory, however, got overshadowed by his comments where he blasted the decision of the United States Supreme Court to grant the right of marriage to homosexual couples throughout the country.

“What happened to you USA? What happened to you? (Unclear) the best of the best in the world, the name is Jesus Christ. What happened to you? Wake up USA. Go for Jesus, not (unclear) Jesus, people,” Romero said as posted on MMAweekly.com.

“Many people, including this reporter, initially believed that Romero said, “Go for Jesus, not gay Jesus, people,” but there has been much debate about his comment, with some people believing he said, “Go for Jesus, not forget Jesus, people,” the article wrote.
